Exploring the Transformative Picture of the Public Nurseries in Taipei City between 1954 and 2005 by Biographical Perspective In response to the integrative policy of kindergarten and nursery, people can expect that the name of “public nursery” will step into history once the bill is approved. There are relatively limited academic researches regarding the topic of “nursery”. Furthermore, it will be more difficult to do the archaeological work if the public nursery “disappeared”. This study will be an extended research of 2007 with title of “The 50-year Developmental Picture of Jian-Cheng Nursery in Taipei City”. With the viewpoint of social constructivism, the education-sociology biographic research approach will be chosen to analyze and construct the meaning of the directors and the educational caregivers of public nurseries in Taipei City through oral biography (especially the part of occupational history). In order to reconstruct the public nurseries’ social transformative process from 1950 to 2005 with the point of view of the action practitioners, “narrative interview” and “focus group” interview data are adopted. And the content includes how developed and extended the welfare value of altruism and the culture of the organization. We hope through this research process to preserve the historical data and official documents serving as critical references in studying of developmental history of childhood education in Taiwan for the future generation.
