    Abstract: PTT BBS 的規模是台灣網路現象有別於世界各國的重要特色︽且其在台灣社會之中的影響力︽也日漸受到確定與注意〈但也促使我們好奇︽一個文字介面的落後資訊系統︽為何能夠在Web2.0 的時代不僅存活下來︽還日益壯大〈本研究主要是針對PTT BBS 的歷史與文化︽試圖把PTT BBS 的歷史放置在台灣學術網路的發展史︾及其和其他BBS 的關係脈絡中︽以便瞭解PTT BBS 興起與獨大的歷史發展過程﹀並從mob-ility 的理論觀點︽企圖跳脫西方科學理性的二元對立思考方式︽以自由和安全的矛盾心理需求︽以及社會與個人之間的愛恨交織著手︽用含混性 (ambiguity)與愛恨交織(ambivalence)的思考方式來理解PTT BBS 的鄉民文化那種愛湊熱鬧︾愛起鬨的特性之社會心理基礎〈以便掌握PTT BBS 所反映並形塑的台灣網路文化特性
    It is not exaggerating to say that the growing influence of PTT BBS is the most remarkable speciality of the Taiwan Internet culture. And it makes us curious about the reason why such an ‘outdated’ text-based information system can survive the so-called age of web 2.0? This research interned to clarify the history of PTT BBS and the characteristics of the ‘mob’ culture of it. For the former task, we believe that the history of PTT BBS can only be understood in the context of the history of TANet. And for the latter task, we draw on the theoretical viewpoint of mob-ility to grasp the underlying needs of freedom and security, and society and individual which are contradictory to each other. Besides, by doing so, we try to demonstrate the efficiency of ambivalent and ambiguous thought which is different from the scientific rational thinking of western modernity.
