    Abstract: 本書的作者Harold Garfinkel是俗民方法學的鼻祖，在1967年時僅僅靠著這本書就為當時的學界投下了一顆震撼彈，影響力擴及社會學、對話分析等等。因受到Garfinkel的理論所啟發而以理論或經驗研究來加以發揚光大的知名學者不勝枚舉。 Garfinkel此一看似純然經驗研究的書籍，實際上上承社會現象學與符號互動論的傳統，與其老師Talcott Parsons所奠定的結構功能論傳統相對話，並與 Durkheim社會事實的主張相對立。簡言之，如Garfinkel自己所指出的，社會秩序不是靜態的、不變的，而是一直處於持續不斷完成的狀態。此外，Garfinkel為當時的社會學理論與社會研究所帶來的衝擊，尤其在於他所凸顯的反身性概念。此一概念挑戰了學者高高在上的俯瞰姿態，促使學者們不再理所當然地在自己與一般社會成員之間劃上一道不可被踰越、挑戰的界限，而將學者自己的研究與所提出的理論適用於學術研究自身。此一概念後來也經由創立Theory and Society的Alvin Gouldner所接續，在其《西方社會學即將面臨的危機》一書中用以對照出當時西方社會學的缺乏自我反省。及至晚近的 Bourdieu更是將此一概念與思想特色發揮得淋漓盡致，而展開他對社會學、學術理性、以及學者與一般人之間關係的一連串批判與反思。
