    Abstract: 本計畫主要針對北美地區近年來剛完成訂定的檔案描述標準 - 「檔案描述:內容標準」(Describing Archives:Content Standard,簡稱DACS)進行探討。此項檔案描述標準是北美地區包括美國與加拿大兩國相關單位共同研擬的檔案描述標準。此項標準(DACS)將用以替代美國地區原已使用多年的檔案描述規則 –「檔案、個人文件暨手稿編目手冊」(Archives, personal papers, and manuscripts cataloging manual, 簡稱APPM)及加拿大地區所採用的「檔案描述規則」(Rules for Archival Description,簡稱 RAD)兩項使用多年的檔案描述規則。由於DACS 此新的檔案描述標準對於北美地區的檔案描述將產生鉅大的變革,因而有必要對於此新的標準進行深入的瞭解,分析其制訂之背景因素、本標準之內容結構、目前北美地區之應用現況。最後探討此標準應用於中文檔案描述的可行性。本計畫共分為兩年執行,第一年係針對DACS 此新的標準進行深入的瞭解,分析其制訂之背景因素、本標準之內容結構、目前北美地區之應用現況。第二年探討此標準應用於中文檔案描述的可行性,將DACS 翻譯為中文,並以深度訪談法,訪問檔案典藏單位,以徵詢中文化的DACS 在中文檔案描述應用的可行性。
    This study is mainly to realize the archival describing standard – Describing Archives: Content Standard (DACS). DACS is a recently set up archival standard by the Society of American Archivists (SAA), and the current archival describing rules, such as APPM and RAD will be replaced by DACS in the North America. Due to the impacts of DACS in the archival description, this study is trying to realize the current status of DACS used in the North America, the background of development, and the structure of DACS. This study includes 2 years, the first year mainly focus on the background of DACS』 development, the structure of DACS, and the current status of DACS used in the North America. The second year discuss the possibility of application DACS in Chinese archival description. The DACS will be translated into Chinese version. The in-depth interview method will be used in this study. Several archivists who work at the archival repositories will be chosen to ask their opinions about Chinese version of DACS used in Chinese archival description.
