Abstract: Asia-Pacific region recently has been eager in regionalisation process and community building. Yet, with the economic integration processes and the political will to create “One Vision, One Community”, there is insufficiency in exploring the understanding for cultures that encompass the region. This paper examines the common activities and joint projects of cultural and artistic exchanges that are facilitated by the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF), implementing the vision of dialogue between the two regions launched by Asia Europe Meeting (ASEM). The author argues that the interaction not only smoothes the progress of rapprochement but also brings Asians closer to each other and serve as a platform for them to realise about own region’s diversity. Participation in these activities brings understanding between the regions, and raises the cultural awareness among the Asians themselves. In this East-West interface, the Asians embark on a journey of re-discovering their own region’s heritage, look for commonalities, and confirm on the regional cultural identity. The inter-regional cultural dialogue serves also mapping purpose for defining what is contemporarily understood by the “Asian culture”, “Asian heritage”, what shapes “cultural borders” of Asia, and whether there exist a “Pan-Asian identity”.
