Podcasts have emerged as a significant channel for news dissemination. This study examines how Taiwanese news podcasts reconstruct traditional journalistic norms through their unique narrative styles. Using content analysis, the research analyzes major Taiwanese news podcast episodes released in 2024, categorized into three media types: legacy media, digital-native outlets, and news influencers. The coding framework includes reporting formats, narrative journalism elements, broadcast language features, expressions of subjectivity and emotion, journalistic roles, and news information sourcing. Findings show that major Taiwanese news podcasts commonly apply narrative journalism techniques and adopt hybrid structures that depart from the traditional inverted pyramid model. First-person narration, combined with personal experiences and emotional disclosure, fosters a sense of intimacy and relational storytelling. Narrative strategies vary across media types, reflecting the diversity of podcast journalism in Taiwan. However, the overall narrative depth and sound design remain limited, with immersive storytelling still underdeveloped. This study concludes that podcasts not only provide an alternative narrative format for news content but also help shape a new professional identity centered on daily companionship, emotional connection, and community engagement. The evolving narrative practices and journalistic conventions within podcasts illustrate the broader transformation of journalism in the digital age. Moreover, the study offers practical recommendations for both traditional news organizations and podcast creators navigating this shifting news landscape.
