    Title: 環境、社會與公司治理對生技醫療產業上市櫃公司經營績效之影響
    The Impacts of Environment, Social and Governance on the Performance of Listed Biotechnology Companies in Taiwan

    Abstract: 在全球及我國人口邁向高齡化趨勢下,生技醫療產業極具發展潛力,除奠定護國群山之產業基石,亦可發揮造惠生命之外部效益,本論文之研究目的主要探討環境、社會及公司治理對生技醫療產業經營績效之影響,研究樣本為我國2023年生技產業白皮書所列130家上市櫃生技醫療公司,統計資料取自TEJ資料庫2016年至2023年之財報與ESG數據,並擇定以市場價值為基礎之Tobin's Q作為經營績效衡量指標,影響因素分為「環境永續」、「社會責任」、「公司治理」等3大構面計14項外,並加入「公司特性」影響因素計4項,設定共18項解釋變數,以「最小平方法(OLS)」多元迴歸模型建立共24個實證模型。研究結果發現,在總體表現上,環境構面與經營績效多呈現正相關,社會構面與經營績效呈現負相關,均未達顯著水準;公司治理構面與經營績效呈現正相關,在納入時間虛擬變數後,並達顯著水準。就個別變數而言,環境構面中「使用綠電」;社會構面中「員工博士比率」;公司治理構面中「研究發展費用率」、「外銷比率」、「董監持股比率」、「十大股東持股比率」;及公司特性中「新藥開發」,計7項影響因素達顯著水準,並與經營績效呈現正相關,均為影響生技醫療產業經營績效之決定因素。至環境構面的「能源管理」與經營績效呈現負相關,「廢棄物及有毒物質管理」與經營績效多呈現正相關,均未達顯著水準;社會構面的「員工平均薪資」、「育嬰留停留任率」與經營績效多呈現正相關,「人權及社區關係」與經營績效多呈現負相關,均未達顯著水準;公司特性的「公司規模」、「應用生技」與經營績效多呈現正相關,「資產總額」與經營績效呈現負相關,均未達顯著水準,則均非經營績效之決定因素。
    Amid global and domestic population aging trends, Taiwan’s biotechnology industry shows strong growth potential, serving both national strategic needs and public health benefits. This study analyzes the impact of environmental, social, and governance factors on the performance of 130 listed biotechnology companies, as identified in the 2023 Taiwan Biotechnology Industry Report. Financial and ESG data from 2016 to 2023 were obtained from the TEJ database, with Tobin's Q used as the performance measure. A total of 18 performance-related factors, including ESG and firm characteristics, are examined using 24 Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) multiple regression models. The empirical results show that environmental and social factors are not statistically significant overall, while governance has a significant positive impact when time variables are included. Seven factors positively and significantly influence performance: green electricity usage, PhD employee ratio, R&D expenditure ratio, export ratio, board shareholding ratio, top 10 shareholder ratio, and new drug development. Other factors, such as energy management, waste handling, salary level, parental leave return rate, human rights and community relations, company size, total assets, and applied biotechnology, show mixed but statistically insignificant correlations and are therefore not considered determinants of performance.
