Psycho-Social Ethnography of the Commonplace方法,分析受訪者對建制時刻(organizational moments)事件的詮釋與處理方式。
Indigenous workers who are also members of the tribe are often required to shift and search for a balanced position between governmental policies and tribal culture, and between being a service provider and a tribal member. The ability to shift, search for and adjust positions is the manifestation of cultural competence, as well as cultural resilience. Using the theoretical framework developed by William E. Cross Jr., Thomas A. Parham, and Enrique W. Neblett Jr., who have long studied African American’s identity development in the United States, this study is aimed to elucidate the detailed process how indigenous workers shift and adjust between self and their roles in the government, society, and in their tribe. This is a three-year field study. During the first year, this study will be based at Hanxi Tribe Datong Township Yilan County; at Dakanuwa Tribe Namasia Kaohsiung during the second year, and at Elug Art Corner Hualien County and Hunter School/Men’s Group Taitung County during the third year. Data will be individually collected using semi-structured Life Story Interview method. Interviewees are part of the tribe and the tribal organization, so they hold two roles—they are tribal members as well as service providers. Data analysis will be conducted using Psycho-Social Ethnography of the Commonplace method, analyzing the way interviewees make sense of and cope with the event during the organizational moments. This study is aimed to understand how ethnic culture might support and guide indigenous workers during their constant shift, search, and adjustment while trying to achieve that balanced position. By understanding indigenous workers’ struggles during the search and how they shift between positions, this study hopes to make known the developmental process of cultural resilience and make aware the protective and healing function of ethnic culture.
