After the 2022 local elections, Taiwan’s society began to prepare for the 2024 presidential race. This time, issues such as the deterioration of cross-strait relations and the strengthening ties with the United States were on the agenda. Divisions within the opposition and the ruling party’s swift selection of a presidential candidate strongly influenced the presidential race up until August 2023. However, the global economic slowdown had a direct impact on Taiwan’s export sector. This report presents the main developments in Taiwan during the period covered by this edition of the Anuario Asia Pacífico El Colegio de México journal.
