| Abstract: | 本視頻民族志研究旨在從修⾏者的⾓度捕捉對台灣佛教機構性別平等的看法。在台灣，比丘尼的數量是比丘的五倍，且有許多受過良好教育的比丘尼，但許多機構仍在實⾏⼋敬法，這是⼀套僅針對尼姑的具爭議性的寺規。本研究旨在探討當地佛教組織中出家眾和志願者的性別經歷。我進⾏了半結構式訪談，對象為來⾃不同性別的出家眾和志願者，了解他們的背景、實際經驗，以及他們對理論概念如⼥性成佛可⾏性的態度。我將訪談⽚段製作成短⽚社交媒體視頻，以促進⼤眾易於接觸的討論。理論背景揭⽰了在台灣佛教機構中，性別平等問題是否以及如何被討論，傳統規則如⼋敬法在此討論中扮演的⾓⾊。 本研究旨在提供對台灣佛教組織中性別平等問題的直接且深⼊的探討，同時通過使⽤社交媒體將這⼀迫切需要的對話帶⼊公共領域。
This Video ethnographic study aims to capture the perception of gender equality in Buddhist institutions in Taiwan from the perspective of the practitioners. In Taiwan female monastics outnumber male ones five to one and there are plenty of well-educated female monastics, but the traditional Garudhammas, a set of eight controversial monastic rules only for nuns, are still in effect in a lot of the institutions. This study sets out to explore the gendered experience of both monastics and volunteers in local Buddhist organizations. I have conducted semi-structured interviews with monastics and volunteers of both genders to learn about their backgrounds, any practical experiences they have with gender (in)equality, and also their attitudes about theoretical concepts like the attainability of Buddhahood for women. I created short form social media videos from the interview footage to promote a discourse easily accessible to the public. The theoretical background sheds light on if and how issues of gender equality in Buddhist institutions in Taiwan are discussed and what role traditional rules like the Garudhammas play in this discourse. This study endeavors to offer a direct and intimate exploration of perceptions of the issue of gender equality in Buddhist organizations in Taiwan, and at the same time, to take this much-needed conversation to a public place with the use of social media. |
