To investigate the impact of the significant minimum wage increase in Taiwan in July 2007 on the labor market, this study employs a rigorous LASSO model to identify low-wage groups that are likely to be affected by the policy. The analysis utilizes a Difference-in-Differences (DID) framework, establishing treatment and control groups based on variations in exposure to the minimum wage across counties. The findings indicate that the minimum wage increase indeed led to higher wages but had no significant impact on employment, hours of work, or the proportion of part-time workers. Moreover, these results were consistent across the full sample and various demographic subgroups. Notably, for individuals with a college education or more, the minimum wage increase did not significantly affect their wages but had a positive impact on employment.
