Study of the Tsinghua bamboo slips is very important for the study of excavated manuscripts. The content of the Tsinghua bamboo slips often concerns changes of power in the political realm, therefore has significant bearings on the development of ancient Chinese political thought. From the perspective of awareness, this project analyzes three directions of political discourse in the Tsinghua bamboo slips: 1. sacredness and awareness of the mandate of heaven, 2. people-oriented thought and legitimacy of political power, and 3. monarch-subject relationships and ruling families. Through close reading of texts, this project aims to gain understanding of political awareness in ancient Chinese political thought, in order to illustrate characteristics of Chinese culture.
