Confucian Classics has long held the highest position in traditional Chinese, which has had a great influence. The Confucian classics act as a means to preserve and record Confucianism. As the Qing Dynasty collapsed, Confucianism declined. Confucian Classics started facing challenges from modern society, and its inheritance, therefore, weathered a severe test. Education Authorities, especially in college education, have a tendency to turn Confucian Classics into one branch of Classics under ancient books studies courses. It eliminates the superior status of Confucian Classics that was once superior to all the other three canons: Shi史, Zi子, Ji集 in the Four Books四書, and made them all equal. In high school education, Confucian Classics are combined into the so-called ‘Chinese Culture’ basic level class materials. This is done in order for it to be passed down to the next generation. This has, however, led to controversy; the debates even enter into an even higher level: a difference in Political Ideologies. On one hand, free from the limitation of Education systems, there are varieties of Reading Classics Classes or Confucian Classics instructional workshops blossoming everywhere. Among civil Life, there is incredible passion and enthusiasm toward Reading Classics, which is a phenomenon that we cannot see in the school system. Set up by a group of scholars from the former Qing Dynasty, the ‘Hok Hoi Association of Hong Kong’ has been founded nearly one hundred year ago since 1920. The ‘Hok Hoi Association of Hong Kong’ aims to inherit Traditional Chinese Culture and Classics, especially Confucian Classics. Until now, the ‘Hok Hoi Association of Hong Kong’ still takes the responsibility of Confucian Classics development in a tough situations without the help of the government or any authority Its achievement and the actual application of experience is worthy of the attention of scholars who are concerned about the development of Confucianism in modern society. And therefore provides a perfect study example for academia as a Reading Classics Education in civil Life. This study plans to investigate the ‘Hok Hoi Association of Hong Kong’ in two ways. The first is historical development and the other is Field Research. This is done in order to inspect the Association’s development, operation-mode, education method, specific content and achievement; and the influence on Hong Kong society - in both civil life and academia. What is the future vision of Confucian Classics Education? How to execute it? What is the target and aim in modern society? How to face the challenges of globalization? All these problems deserve further discussion. Through the case study of ‘Hok Hoi Association of Hong Kong’, though we cannot solve all these problems above completely, the case study can be a reference for facilitating the Confucian Classics Education for other Chinese regions.
