Personal suffixes used in Turkish verb conjugation are secondary structures formed by the grammaticalization of different morphemes (pronouns, possessive suffixes, etc.). These morphemes, which are generally formed by the encliticization and affixation of pronouns over time, can take part in various morphological structures. Personal markers of possessive origin, which are the subject of this study, have also gone through different grammaticalization processes in terms of the morphological structures they are used in. Some of these emerged directly by the transformation of possessive structures, and some emerged by the transformation of personal suffixes of pronoun origin as a result of morphonological events. Since personal markers of possessive origin provide various examples in different parts of the Turkic linguistic area, personal markers of possessive origin in Turkish have been compared with the uses in other Turkic languages when appropriate. Therefore, the study aims to analyze the grammaticalization process of personal markers of possessive origin in Turkish through synchronic and diachronic analysis.
