    Abstract: 在英語圈的世界裡，台灣的能見度很小，更遑論是作為大眾文化的台灣漫畫，不曾被當成正式的研究對象、有系統地討論過。因此本書的撰寫最重要的目的，即是在現今英語被視為國際語言之一的世界中，將台灣漫畫在世界漫畫中的位置呈現出來，其次，將爬梳日治時期以來至1980年代(暫定)的台灣漫畫史，並藉由法國社會Pierre Bourdieu的資本與場域的理論，來分析台灣漫畫史的歷程中，報紙、雜誌、租書店各自流通漫畫以及其漫畫家的社會位階差異，乃至漫畫文本中所呈現出來的台灣的樣貌。
