This master thesis explores the smart city strategies of Vienna and Singapore from an economic perspective. On the one hand, Vienna’s Strategy (Smart City Wien) emphasizes its smart city vision on sustainability and innovation, positioning the city as a global reference for sustainable urban growth. On the other hand, Singapore's Smart Nation campaign concentrates greatly on digitalization to improve economic growth and competitiveness. Through a comparison study, this paper investigates factors that lead to economic success in making cities smart alongside with their obstacles and challenges. It is aimed to explore measures implemented from both locations and their effects in the process of policy decision-making. Cities worldwide can today use Vienna and Singapore as referential examples to comprehend the diverse methods for forming urban environments that are sustainable, inclusive, and resilient. This study is part of a larger collection of research papers on the increasingly widespread smart city field, collecting relevant experiences from this field through a literature review.
