    摘要: In early 2024, the Democratic Progressive Party's Lai Ching-te won the Taiwanese presidency, marking the end of a multi-party race marred by scandals and internal divisions. This was the first time a party has won three straight presidential elections in Taiwan, albeit with only 40.1 per cent of the vote and the loss of a legislative majority. Alongside political shifts, Taiwan is grappling with economic discontent reflected by its ‘five shortages' including energy. The Democratic Progressive Party's commitment to powering 20 per cent of electricity with renewable energy by 2025 is under scruntiny given current technology and public reluctance to accept higher prices.
