In the midst of environmental changes, alterations in the soundscape correspond to the context of human existence and serve as integral components of life experiences, offering auditory states across various spatiotemporal scenes and immersive sensations. This study engages in participatory observation, field interactions, and narrative interviews with soundscape practitioners in Taiwan to comprehend their process of connecting with the soundscape through listening actions. Through the narrative accounts of their life experiences, we delineate and reflect on the developmental context of their "listening" actions, where emerging social frameworks, self-awareness, and connections with the soundscape become crucial prerequisites for understanding soundscape theory. Furthermore, the study explores interpretive possibilities of human-environment relationships through listening.

Literature review reveals that soundscape studies often employ geographical frameworks for investigation. In contrast, this research primarily focuses on narrative interviews of soundscape practitioners, emphasizing their attention to sound elements, processes of being drawn by sounds in the environment, and core ideologies sustained during prolonged engagements in collection and promotion work. It also examines new discoveries concerning environmental perception through soundscape practices.

Analyzing the narrative interviews of soundscape practitioners, the study explores the relationship between sound concepts and practitioners, as well as the auditory contexts within soundscape work. It investigates how practitioners transform and connect with soundscape environments through listening experiences. The study's findings suggest a link between auditory awareness and sound environments, underscoring the necessity for individuals to "open awareness" to the importance of sound in their surroundings and expand interpretive spaces for sound through memory, imitation, sharing, and creation. Additionally, through case studies, it reveals how soundscape practitioners establish emotional connections with the environment through listening actions.
