In recent years, with the rise of blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies, many insurance products based on blockchain have been proposed and discussed. Among them, parametric insurance is suitable for data-driven implementation on the blockchain due to its unique product characteristics. This study explores blockchain technology and tokenization strategies to solve the current problems in the insurance market by designing and implementing a parametric insurance platform based on blockchain to verify its benefits and feasibility. The study proposes an innovative blockchain insurance solution that parameterizes traditional insurance data with smart contracts, granting policyholders the flexibility to customize their insurance contents. It also combines tokenization technology and the role of investors to maintain the platform’s operation to achieve automated insurance transactions.
In the system implementation, the claimed logic of insurance is implemented on the Ethereum blockchain, and the ERC-20 token standard is used to achieve the trading and transfer of equity tokens. To meet the real-world application scenarios, the system is integrated with the decentralized oracle Chainlink to achieve automated insurance claim execution. Experiments have confirmed that the system can be applied to various insurance scenarios and has good extensibility and portability. The methods and perspectives of this study can provide new ideas and directions for the transformation and upgrading of the insurance industry and have essential reference value for the application research of blockchain in the insurance industry.
