Rooted in the vast fields of positive psychology, and building upon previous research on meaningful music media experiences and their effects (Janicke & Oliver, 2015), this research explored ways where Christian music supports listeners in coping with the uncertainties of life and fostering gratitude, connectedness, compassion love towards others. Over the past decade, there has been a growing interest in exploring which specific media content can promote social good, well-being, and positive emotions. (Vorderer, 2011). However, the majority of media effects research has focused on examining the potential negative consequences of media exposure. Hence, it is imperative to utilize the tremendous potential which lies in meaningful music content to counteract the harmful and negative effects of media.

Through a quantitative approach, this research examined the prominence of transcendence, gratitude, connectedness, and compassion love in Christian music compared to pleasurable music. The study also explored the mediating role of gratitude in the relationship between Christian music and experiences of connectedness and compassion love. The findings of the study provide empirical evidence of the effects of Christian music on individuals’ well-being, as it exhibited a greater emphasis on transcendence, gratitude, connectedness, and compassionate love compared to pleasurable music. Engaging meaningfully with Christian music enhanced individuals’ sense of connectedness to the transcendent, concern for other’s well-being and capacity for compassionate love. Gratitude played a significant mediating role, facilitating these positive emotional experiences in response to Christian music. Conclusively, these findings contribute to our understanding of the transformative power of Christian music.
