This paper primarily examines the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020 on the unemployment rate in Taiwan. It investigates the influence of the global pandemic on domestic unemployment by considering the number of confirmed cases worldwide and the COVID-19 border control policies implemented by Taiwan`s trading partners. The results of the study using ARDL analysis showed that both the number of confirmed cases within Taiwan and the number of confirmed cases in importing and exporting countries during the latter two periods significantly affect Taiwan`s unemployment rate. Moreover, only certain COVID-19 border control policies implemented in Taiwan and abroad exhibit a notable impact on Taiwan`s unemployment rate.
