Quality in Higher Education、Quality Assurance in Education、Higher Education、Assessment and Evaluation in Higher Education、Tertiary Education and Management、Higher Education Policy、Studies in Higher Education、European Journal of Higher Education。
The study aims to examine the knowledge base and research front of quality assurance in higher education research by using bibliometric methods and visualization analysis. Bibliometric data were retrieved from Scopus databases and consisted of 1570 documents. The data were used for citation analysis, document co-citation analysis, co-word analysis, bibliographical coupling, and burst term detection, and CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and Biblioshiny softwares were employed for visualization.
The results of this bibliometric analysis show that the knowledge base of quality assurance in higher education research is comprised of: (1) important countries: United Kingdom, Australia, United States of America; (2) influential researchers: Bjørn Stensaker, Maria João Rosa, Mahsood Shah, Don F. Westerheijden, Angela Yung-Chi Hou; (3) core sources: Quality in Higher Education, Quality Assurance in Education, Higher Education, Assessment and Evaluation in Higher Education, Tertiary Education and Management, Higher Education Policy, Studies in Higher Education, European Journal of Higher Education; (4) topical foci: concept of quality, quality assurance approaches, stakeholders’ viewpoints; (5) top 10 keywords: quality assurance, higher education, education, quality, accreditation, quality control, student, university, bologna process, standard. The research front of quality assurance in higher education comprises emerging issues such as: (1) reviewing current quality assurance system with critical awareness; (2) considering stakeholders’ viewpoints; (3) identifying obstacles to improve quality assurance system; (4) burst terms: quality culture, higher education institution, internal quality assurance, challenge. Finally, based on the conclusions, the study proposes some suggestions for higher education quality assurance practice and future research.
