Abstract: | Climate change is the main challenge for humanity in the current century. If we do not re-duce the amount of greenhouse gases emitted into the atmosphere in the coming decades, the effect of an increase in the average temperature on Earth will have irreversible and cata-strophic consequences.
In this regard, the climate change regime is getting tougher every year, countries and com-panies are taking on more and more commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This process of global decarbonization will lead to a full-scale change in the world economy, and businesses need to be prepared for this.
To adapt, companies need to develop a detailed climate strategy and use the available oppor-tunities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, which can generally be divided into two groups: innovative and compensatory approaches.
This thesis examines issues related to the causes and consequences of climate change, the evolution of the climate change regime, its impact on business, as well as actions that com-panies take or need to take now to prevent global warming. The greater focus is done on the emissions trading systems as a market mechanism to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. |
