There is a lot of discussion about the complex emerging structure of the digital economy, but what they have in common is that the rapid development of digital technologies, the fierce competition from multinational industries, and the shift of industrial paradigms due to technological innovation have made it necessary for most industries to focus on digital transformation, and furthermore, knowledge has become the most meaningful capital in current economic activities, i.e., knowledge as a means to obtain social and economic outcomes and as important evidence to assess one`s competitiveness in the digital economy.
Therefore, this study explore the issue of digital competitiveness at the technological level by the patent data of computing-related technologies from 1981 to 2021 , to investigate whether technological convergence and interdisciplinary technology can promote national digital competitiveness, and the degree of influence of technological convergence and interdisciplinary technology on digital competitiveness.
The results of the study show that computing-related technologies are highly correlated with national digital competitiveness rankings, both in terms of their own technological innovation and the resulting technological convergence and interdisciplinary technology, and the correlation between interdisciplinary technology and national digital competitiveness rankings has been the highest in the past five years, meaning that computing, as a general-purpose technology, can provide impetus for technological convergence and interdisciplinary technology, and that the technology convergence and interdisciplinary technology derived from it can provide impetus for national digital competitiveness rankings. The study also shows that "computing" as a general-purpose technology can provide impetus for technology convergence and interdisciplinary technology, and that its derivative technology convergence and interdisciplinary technology are important in the ranking of national digital competitiveness.
It is worth mentioning that the results of the study also show that countries with more patents in computing-related technologies are usually ranked high in the national digital competitiveness ranking, and they also have a larger scale in technology convergence and interdisciplinary technology. Therefore, this study argues that although past studies have shown that digital competitiveness emphasizes the ability to adopt and explore digital technologies, the possession or development of technology ownership related to digital technologies is also an important competitive chip in digital competitiveness.
