    摘要: Abstract
Breakthrough in the Development of Taiwan’s Sustainable Exhibition Industry

The Green MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, exhibitions/events) project of MEET TAIWAN was awarded “Best Actions to Engage Participants on Sustainability `` by UFI in 2016. The project aimed to promote Taiwan’s sustainable exhibition industry. Albeit most stakeholders understand its importance and some of them are adopting relative approaches, there has no significant breakthrough throughout the recent eight years. Based on the results from a more structured qualitative study instrument collected from the three key industry stakeholders, exhibition organizers, exhibition halls, and decorators, we learn that they have encountered difficulties primarily from the government and the industry. Lacking goals, direction, incentive programs, support from industry partners, and financial pressure make them feel unmotivated and frustrated.

This project explored mainly the positions of the three stakeholders across the value chain and their efforts in developing sustainable exhibitions. The findings indicate that the utmost crucial tasks are to create a collaborative ecosystem that the corporate, association, and the government work toward one goal and to change the mindset of ones who are at the management levels of each stakeholder. In addition, the government could further propose revised Green MICE guidelines, incentive programs for the three key stakeholders, organize seminars and provide reports on sustainable topics. With all these, industry stakeholders would have a clearer expectation; and they could be better motivated and able to solicit more resources. Regarding the implementation, it can begin with exhibition halls, who could add sustainability-related regulations into their service contracts. Then, the exhibition organizers may establish a positive loop in the exhibition industry to better promote sustainable exhibitions.
