Cynical views come toward the values of academic research outcome and societal views put that elaborated research only have marginal contribution to the pragmatic industry usage. Based on the aforementioned argument this thesis investigates the spillover effects brought about by academic research on industry application. By assembling data from three sources including published academic articles, granted patents and industry firms’ financial performance, the academic spillover effects are confirmed to have significant influence on industry performance in both Taiwan and mainland China. Then further specified tests are also utilized to approve that the natural science research is more influential than research belonging to social science. This is because that more applied oriented research is easier for the ready usage for industry firms.
