This thesis is intended to focus on Lung, Ying-Tsung’s contributions published during 1945-1947, and observe how he faced the dramatically changing “new-era” with literary thought and how he ruminat ed the “cross-era” issues as being one of a few active writers during postwar period. This thesis will give emphasis on how the writers’ recognition and their thought affecting the postwar literary activities. In my opinion, after reviewing all Lungs’ contributions in the early stage of postwar period, his concern was rooted in the pursuit of modernity,” which also formed the basis of his thought and movement. All his concern, authentication, and observation of new ear and new regime, were related to the reflections on the social culture in Taiwan and China. Lung’s pursuit and appeal for modernity was mirrored in literary and artistic activities in a virtually anxious extent, particularly when he assumed the work as the author of “literary and artistic column” and “cultural column” in Chung-Hwa Daily. At that time, he attempted to fulfill his dream of modern enlightenment through literary movement. In presenting activities, he was tendentious to lay more stress on criticisms but less stress on novels or poems. From this viewpoint, this thesis sought to provide a comprehensive explanation for Lung’s consideration toward the community, idealism of literature and art, and idealism of cultural reformation during the early stage of postwar period.
