Abstract:	上海交通大學於2003年公布「世界大學學術排名」(Academic Ranking of World Universities)之後，全球大學學術排名進入白熱化的競爭，而英國「時報高等教育增刊」(The Times Higher Education Supplement)也立即在2004年11月跟進，公布涵蓋全球前兩百大的「世界大學排行榜」(World University Rankings)，2006年10月已公布第三次排名。其主要目的，是希望能為高等教育全球化的脈絡提供一個持續性、系統性的方式來檢驗全世界一流大學的品質。
