Market economy is running with urbanization and individual rationality. However, what happened in Yakou village, Zhongshan City, southeast of China, defies this logic: why is the collective economic system continue to survive in a highly capitalist environment? Why is there a large area of farmland to be preserved in the process of rapidly urbanization? Based on the viewpoint of critical institutionalism, this research use one case of solidarity economy on the issue of rural sustainable development, to clarify how social collective institutions survive in radical political and economic transitions. In presenting 60-year institutional transformation journey of the case, this research uncovers three conditions of effective institutional bricolage: embedded local capital, the fragmented bureaucracy institutions and the cooperative organizational strategies. |
