    Abstract:

    Abstract

The recent food safety issue on domestic agricultural products has harmed the health of consumers and also diminished the trust of people to the agriculture products. Fortunately, the rise of community supported agriculture (CSA) has mended the gap of information and relationship between producers and consumers and changed the pattern of production and circulation of the agricultural products, thereby intensifying the trust and close relationship between the consumers and the producers.
Rice is one of the important products in Yilan County. This research used the Tian-Dong rice in the Xinnan village, the Xiao-Liu rice and the You-Tian-You rice as samples, in order to study the relationship between the consumers’ participation in CSA and the health-promoting lifestyle. In this paper, the quantitative questionnaires and the qualitative deep interviews are conducted, followed by data processing, analysis and discussion with the SPSS statistical analysis software. The data involved includes status survey, motivation for participation, and satisfaction for the consumers who participate in CSA. In addition, the relationships and effects of six aspects of the health-promoting lifestyle, including nutrition, sports and leisure, interpersonal relationship, stress management, health responsibility and self-actualization are also covered. It is expected that the study can provide the producers with the reference of and adjustment in the CSA business model, from the viewpoint of the health promotion for the consumers.
The study showed that in variables in the demographic background, there are no significant differences in gender, age, annual family income, marriage status, number of children, education, time duration in participating in CSA, occupation, and place of residence for the consumers who participate in CSA; whereas, there is a significant difference in the family population that participates in CSA, showing that the family population will affect the willingness of consumers to participate in CSA, with that the price is still a key factor to affect the participation. In terms of the health-promoting lifestyle, there are no significant differences in gender, education, time duration in participating in CSA and occupation among the variables in the demographic background; whereas, there are significant differences in age, annual family income, family population, marriage status, number of children and place of residence. Most of the consumers who participate in CSA are motivated by protecting natural environment and supporting peasants, and during the participation in CSA, they are more satisfied with the interaction between farms and consumers. The activities of farming experience facilitate the promotion of CSA and benefit the health-promoting lifestyle, and there is a positive correlation between the participation in CSA and the health-promoting lifestyle. Furthermore, the friendly farming will depend upon the physical support and purchase to CSA by the general consumers, so that farmers can see the hope and are willing to be involved for change.
