    Title: 平台企業收購硬體廠商的策略分析-以Google收購HTC手機團隊為例

    Abstract:   近幾年經營平台的企業開始有了走向硬體的情形,像是Amazon推出結合語音助理的喇叭Echo以及Facebook收購Oculus推出VR裝置,這些企業投入未來可能引領新潮流的產品是可以理解的。然而本研究則更聚焦於經營平台的企業選擇投入成長已經趨緩或是衰退的市場,當硬體廠商都難以獲利的情況下,這些企業又該如何從中獲利?
      智慧型手機製造商每年不斷推出新的功能以及更好的硬體設備來吸引消費者,市場也因為逐漸飽和而導致製造商之間的競爭越來越激烈,許多智慧型手機製造商都面臨虧損的窘境。然而即使是在這樣子的市場下,不只Microsoft收購Nokia手機部門,Google也繼收購Motorola後又收購了HTC團隊。
      本研究以Google作為個案研究對象,探討這些平台企業收購硬體廠商的策略意圖以及在後續推出產品和獲利上的思維為何。本研究發現:一、平台企業會透過建立硬體的標準來幫助將自己的服務推送出去;二、平台企業更傾向於採用協助者創新;三、平台企業會考慮技術生命週期來選擇技術的獲取方式;四、比起在生產過程中獲利,平台企業更傾向於在消費過程中獲利。
      In recent years, business that have been operating platforms have begun to move toward hardware. For example, Amazon launched the Echo with voice assistants and Facebook also launched VR devices through the acquisition of Oculus. It`s understandable that these business invest in the products that may lead the new trend in the future. However, this study is more focused on the platform business choosing to invest in growth has slowed down or declined in the market. When hardware manufacturers are difficult to profit, how should these platform business profit from it?
      Smartphone manufacturers continue to introduce new features and better hardware devices to attract consumers every year. The market is also becoming more competitive due to the gradual saturation of the market. Many smartphone manufacturers are facing losses. However, even in such a market, not only Microsoft acquired the Nokia mobile phone division, but Google also acquired the HTC team after acquiring Motorola.
      This study uses case study method and chooses Google as the object to explore the strategic intent of these platform business to acquire hardware companies and the thinking on subsequent product launches and profitability. This study finds out that: First, platform business will help to push their own services through the establishment of complementary standards; Second, platform business are more inclined to adopt helper innovation; Third, platform business will consider technology life cycle to select way of acquiring technology; Fourth, compared to the profit in the production process, platform business are more inclined to profit in the consumption process.
