In this interdisciplinary work, we attempt to incorporate the technologies developed in Computer Science into the research on Facebook check-in with a hope of making it a new tool to assist qualitative research on the practice of everyday life. We first use the concepts proposed by de Certeau and Lefebvre to sketch an operational scheme and use it as a basis in the design of our visualization analysis tool, called Visualized Pedestrian Speech Acts Application for Facebook Check-in (VPSA). Then we use the tool to analyze the practice of check-ins by different individuals and to enable the dialogs between qualitative analysis and statistical data on check-in behaviors. Finally, based on this experience, we reflect on the issue of demanding new research methodologies in the era of liquid society.
