Abstract: This chapter describes the current status of EMI teacher education in Taiwan. As globalization of the world economies pushes for more communication and competition among nations, it also pushes for internationalization of higher education around the globe. Taiwan, like many countries in the world, has joined the trend of establishing EMI curricula in universities, in hopes of attracting international talents to the student and faculty bodies, as well as upgrading the world rankings of its universities. While the need for EMI curriculum at the tertiary level continues to arise, proper EMI faculty education has yet to catch up. This chapter first reviews the literature on difficulties experienced by unprepared EMI teachers. Next, the various EMI teacher development programs initiated in Taiwan over the past few years will be presented, followed by an evaluation of these programs. Finally, the chapter outlines and proposes a future model of an EMI faculty development program that could serve as a certification mechanism for teachers who need to teach EMI courses to nonnative English speakers.
