    Abstract: 儒墨二家在先秦時期,並稱顯學。儒家已成中國文化主流大宗,對社會、政治、倫理、教育等影響均極大;惟墨家,經秦漢即消聲匿跡,以迄清季,始復有人起而研究。為瞭解兩家盛衰關鍵,及墨子之教育思想,是為撰述本文之動機。本文先探討墨子之生略,進而研究墨子之主要思想:兼愛、非攻、節用(含非樂、節葬)可併之為利他或共利之功利主義;為維持社會秩序,而有建立社會、政治體系之觀念,及重視「一義」-統一思想,其中心思想,可歸之天志、尚同、尚賢之威權主義思想。墨子的根本觀念,則為兼愛。由功利與威權主義出發,其教育目的在培養「兼以易別」之仁人君子;教學科目為五藝(禮、射、御、書、數)及自然科學、理則學、經濟學等。教學方法,依其知識理論,則為重視外在經驗印證之直觀教學,注重步驟、層次,強調學習者之主動學習,以及教學環境之布置。訓育方法採外在誘因之獎懲辦法,以期變化氣質,惟稍帶迷信神秘色彩。
