Abstract:	明初，設中書省，置丞相以助理萬機，洪武十三年，太祖藉口胡惟庸謀反，廢中書、罷丞相不設，分其政於六部。成祖即位，擢翰林官入值文淵閣，以其就食大內，謂之內閣，其後，漸次演變，遂成為樞機政本之地。明代閣臣之出身、經歷，先後差異甚大。明初用人，原不限資格，翰林纂修亦諸色參用，後則進士曰重，舉貢漸輕，荐舉寖廢。天順以後，非進士不入翰林，非翰林不入閣，遂衍為一代定制。至閣臣入閣前之經歷，初時，皆編講等低秩，成弘以後，閣體漸隆，人歆鳳池，故皆由翰林歷卿貳大僚入閣。至閣臣省區之分布，與各省人口密度，文化高下，經濟之枯榮，皆互有關係。本文之內容，即係就明代史料，以探討明代閣臣之出身、經歷先後之差異，以及由各省人口密度、文化水準、經濟發展程度之不同，所形成閣臣籍貫之分布情形。
